Following two massive releases from Dexcell and Hectix, Beta Recordings returns with an absolute monster of a release from one of Ukraine’s finest exports.
With his recent album ‘Song Of The Stars’ still melting speakers across the globe, Fade is a man who genuinely needs little introduction. His open-minded, brutal-but-beautiful approach to dynamics has scored him friends from labels across the board with appearances on labels as disparate as Renegade Hardware and IM:Ltd . Naturally he’s gone to town on this one for Beta; painting bold, broad strokes, he’s stretched his skillish canvas beyond ripping point.
‘Guideline’ is an instant ‘hunchback’ tune. Firing with distorted, paranoid detuned synths so strong they’d make Spor or Noisia blush, we’re then dropped into a much more minimal groove with a triplet-style swagger and an array of insane processed sounds. There’s more than a stench of techno to proceedings, too, adding a real sense of teeth-gritting heaviness which has already turned the head of one Andy C this summer. Stamps of DJ approval don’t come much higher.
‘Spectral Forms’ takes us to a much deeper domain. Dropping the tempo by a BPM or 30, here we find ourselves in a similar field to the one Om Unit and Sam Binga are currently frolicking in. A slippery sense of mechanical funk is at play as the rhythm picks up a breakbeat naughtiness, all slinky hi-hats and stuttering fills. With added synth flourishes and smouldering sub bass licks, it’s one of Fade’s most distinctive, daring creations. Which is saying something.
Tickling both sides of the dance with tenacity, Fade and Beta Recordings are the perfect match. Expect more from this exciting relationship in the near future.
